Asala began offering lending services in 1997 through the Palestinian Businesswomen’s Association – Asala, a non-profit organization registered with the Ministry of Interior. By the end of 2013, the lending services were separated from the association, and Asala for Development and Lending was established as a specialized, profit-oriented lending company – a private limited shareholding company. It was registered with the Ministry of Economy and obtained a license from the Palestinian Monetary Authority to carry out its lending activities. The general assembly of Asala consists of investors from the Palestinian Businesswomen’s Association – Asala, which holds 72.51% of the company, the Palestine Investment Fund - PIF with 26.83%, and 0.66% held by individual founders and members of the Palestinian Businesswomen’s Association – Asala.
